We use a variety of technologies to help us better understand how visitors use the Website, NOTUM's mobile applications (the “Apps”) and our services (collectively, “NOTUM”). As part of our commitment to upholding a high standard of transparency in our privacy policy and practices, we’ve created this guide to explain the tracking technologies we use on the website.

There are three common types of tracking technologies used on NOTUM:
Cookies: This is a small data file sent from a server to the user's web browser or mobile device that is stored on the browser cache or mobile device. You can configure your browser's settings to reflect your preference to accept or reject cookies (see "Opting-out and managing cookies" below).
Clear gifs, web beacons, web bugs: These are tiny graphics with a unique identifier similar in function to cookies and are used to track the online movements of web users. Differentely from cookies, which are stored on a user's computer hard drive, clear gifs are embedded invisibly on web pages and are about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. We do not tie the information gathered by clear gifs to your personally identifiable information.
Flash cookies, local shared objects (LSOs): Flash cookies are used to collect and store information, but differ from browser cookies in the amount, type and manner in which data is stored. NOTUM uses Flash cookies in order to facilitate services such as fraud prevention. NOTUM does not tie the information gathered by Flash cookies to your personally identifiable information. Tracking technologies have two different lifespans:
Persistent means it remembers certain information about each user's preferences for viewing the website, and allows NOTUM to recognize the user each time he returns. Persistent cookies are stored on browser cache or mobile device until the user chooses to delete them.
Session, on the other hand, is specific to a particular visit to the website, to carry information as the user views different pages on NOTUM so he doesn’t have to re-enter information. Session cookies expire and delete themselves automatically when the user leaves the website or closes the web browser.
NOTUM uses tracking technologies for some general purposes:
Strictly necessary: Vital to ensuring that NOTUM works properly for visitors and members.

Performance: Help us understand how the Website or the Apps are functioning so that we can improve our services.
Functionality: Retain each user's personal preferences as he uses the Website or the Apps to enhance the overall experience.
Marketing and advertising: Gather data to help deliver advertising content relevant to each user's interests.
NOTUM sometimes partners with third-party services who may use various tracking technologies to provide certain services or features, including targeted online marketing. These technologies allow a partner to recognize the user's computer or mobile device each time he visits NOTUM, but do not allow access to personally identifiable information from NOTUM. NOTUM does not have access or control over these third-party technologies and they are not covered by our privacy policy.
Third-parties may choose to include NOTUM widgets on their websites. When a user loads a website that has chosen to include our widgets, we receive analytics information through a cookie that may be used to enhance our data or to improve our services.

Opting-out and managing cookies

Each user can change his web browser's settings to reflect his cookie preferences. Each browser is a little different, but usually these settings are under the "options" or "preferences" menu.
